A comparative look at how 12 RingCentral competitors and adjacent cloud-communications vendors have publicly positioned themselves around the Model Context Protocol. Each company is scored on cadence, signal substance, and keyword footprint — the question being asked is not "did they blog about MCP?" but "do they own an MCP surface a customer can actually touch?"
Five companies own a shipped MCP surface with executive-visible rollout. Three more ship only developer surfaces. Two have not yet shipped — only third-party or definition-level coverage.
Each marker is a primary-source announcement (official blog, PR distribution, or developer docs page). The first MCP signal in cloud-communications shipped in early 2025; the cadence accelerated sharply after Microsoft's March 2025 release and again after Avaya's July 2025 BusinessWire announcement.
P = Primary docs · I = Integration depth · E = Executive visibility · D = Dev ecosystem activity · C = Cadence.

First and latest MCP signal, surface, primary source URL, executive visibility, score breakdown, and the keyword cloud associated with each company's MCP positioning.
The signal leaders have crossed from "developer docs" to "executive PR + named partner integration." The Tier 4 holdouts (Genesys, Five9) are the most interesting data points — the absence is itself a signal.
Microsoft, AWS, Avaya, Talkdesk, and Twilio have all publicly framed MCP as their AI-agent integration backbone. The Tier 2 companies (Cisco, Zoom, Vonage) ship MCP surfaces but haven't amplified them in executive channels. RingCentral's competitive position depends on whether it shows up as a Tier 1 actor (PR-distributed, partner-amplified, exec-visible) or stays in Tier 2 (developer-docs only).
Genesys publishes a "What is MCP" definition page — a content-marketing tell that they're tracking but not shipping. Five9 has no first-party MCP material at all; their Genius AI narrative is still inside their own walls. Both are large, well-resourced incumbents whose silence is information: the MCP standard isn't yet a competitive lever in their enterprise deals, or they're holding for a coordinated launch.
Microsoft's score (24) is 5x Five9's score (5). That gap, not the protocol itself, is what competitors are racing to close. The keyword cloud around Tier 1 players converges on "agents, tools, GA, partner gallery" — the vocabulary of platform ownership. Tier 4 players haven't entered that vocabulary yet.
